The respondent did not attend the hearing. The tribunal heard oral evidence from the claimant, who was supported by a substantial bundle of documents, and used that evidence to assess the monetary claims. The claimant's updated schedule of loss sought £2,978, but the tribunal carried out its own calculation and reached a lower total.

The tribunal awarded £739.72 for unlawful deductions, assessed on the basis of nine days at £82.19 per day. It also awarded £1,109.57 for holiday pay, assessed on the basis of 13.5 days at £82.19 per day, with that daily rate derived from a salary of £30,000 per year.

A further £646 was awarded for financial losses described by the tribunal as arising under s.24(2) of the Employment Rights Act 1996. That figure comprised £80 for HSBC interest, £86 for a late rent penalty fee, £80 for a council tax summons, £50 for printing documents, and £350 for one week's lost wages, after the tribunal reduced that last item from the £625 claimed. The total awarded to the claimant was £2,495.29.
