The tribunal held that Teconica Limited had made unauthorised deductions from Mr C Williams-Johnson's wages. It accepted the claimant's explanation and calculations in relation to the deductions from wages and also accepted that he had suffered consequential losses as a result of those deductions. The tribunal awarded the gross sum of £21,675.37 for the deductions.
The tribunal also awarded £1,036 under section 24(2) of the Employment Rights Act 1996 as compensation for consequential loss. It excluded the capital sum of a loan of £450, a claim for interest of £372.60, and two claims of £1,000 described as owed in rental and severe damage to credit, on the basis that they were either outside the statutory definition of financial loss or did not arise in consequence of the wage deductions.
