At the undefended final hearing on 11 January 2021, the tribunal found that Miss R Ingham was dismissed by the respondent for reason of redundancy, with an effective date of termination of 16 March 2020. The respondent did not appear or take part. The tribunal recorded that the claimant's date of birth was 10 October 1997, that her employment began on 10 October 2013, and that her gross weekly wage was £314.

On those facts, the tribunal found that as at the effective date of termination the claimant was 22 years old and had accrued six complete years of service. It held that she was entitled to a statutory redundancy payment calculated on the basis of one half of her gross weekly wage for each completed year of service under the age of 22. The payment was calculated as 6 weeks at half of £314, namely 6 x £157, producing a statutory redundancy payment of £942. The tribunal ordered the respondent to pay that sum to the claimant.
