Key findings
Tribunal's reasoningThe Tribunal upheld in part the Claimant's claims of direct discrimination and harassment related to gender reassignment, and upheld one allegation each of direct discrimination and harassment related to sex. The Respondent was ordered to pay the Claimant a total of £12,500.
The award comprised £10,000 for injury to feelings (which included £2,000 in respect of aggravated damages) and a 25% uplift of £2,500 for the Respondent's failure to follow the ACAS Code of Practice in relation to the Claimant's two grievances.
The Tribunal also made a number of recommendations, including that the Claimant and Nick Cavanagh do not work together going forward without detriment to the Claimant, that Mr Howard-Bearder undertake external training on handling difficult conversations, that the Respondent consider mediation, that named individuals receive grievance-handling training, that site employees undergo harassment-prevention training, and that a safe-harbour contact be agreed for the Claimant.

Case essentials (reference, date, judge, venue, country, claim categories) are extracted from the structured metadata gov.uk publishes alongside each decision. Parties and monetary figures are extracted from the judgment PDF text. Key findings and per-claim outcomes require a second extraction pass that is not yet complete for this case — until then, the primary source linked above is the authoritative record.
